GSA Engages OMCs on Industry Trends

The Metrology Directorate of the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) engaged operation managers of Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, to discuss pressing issues affecting the industry.

The meeting, which attracted over 200 officials from the OMCs, was aimed at deliberating on the operations of the Authority with the OMCs, address challenges confronting the industry, including complaints from customers over under delivery; registration and training of pump mechanics, access to the ntease kuruwa at all fuel stations and find solutions to some of these challenges.

Mrs. Elizabeth Claire Nelson, the Acting Director of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (PME), in welcoming the participants said the Authority was honored to receive the representatives for this very important engagement

She said the GSA is committed to promoting quality, safety, and fairness in the petroleum industry adding that the role of OMCs in ensuring compliance with standards and regulations is crucial, and the Authority appreciates their efforts.

“Today, we’re here to collaborate, share knowledge, and strengthen our partnership. Let’s work together to protect consumers, promote fair trade, and drive growth in the industry,” she noted.

Dr. Awal Mohammed, the Deputy Director-General in charge of Operations at the GSA, who has direct supervision of the Metrology Directorate, thanked the participants for attending the engagement and ensuring a fruitful discussion.

The Director-General of the GSA, Professor George Agyei, said the OMCs play a critical role in the economic development of the country.

He noted that the mandate of the GSA is two-fold – protect consumers and facilitate trade – adding that the Authority would soon review its fines for those who breach the law, appealing to industry players to act with integrity during their operations in order not to fall foul of the law.

Earlier, Mrs. Docea Quashie-Asiedu, the Director of the Metrology Directorate, briefed participants on plans to organize a capacity training for pump mechanics across the country. The initiative, she said, is to ensure that the mechanics are abreast with current trends in the sector.

Mr. Frank Okai, the Head of Legal Metrology; Mr. Daniel Kwakofi, the Quality Controller at the Directorate and Ing. Lesley Awere Kyere of the Petroleum Laboratory made presentations on the Overview of Requirements under the GSA Act 1078, Training for Pump Mechanics, Promotion of Testing Facilities, amongst others.

A question-and-answer-session provided an opportunity for participants to air their concerns and challenges and allowed GSA officials to clarify concerns and discuss plans for future collaboration. Participants called for continuous collaboration in addressing the needs of the industry. The event was also graced by Dr. Maxwell Kogbe, the Director of Testing, and Mrs. Dorothy Amoah, the Head of Marketing at the GSA.
