PROF. ALEXANDER DODOO (DIRECTOR GENERAL, GHANA STANDARDS AUTHORITY)
Alexander Dodoo (BPharm, MSc, PhD, FPSGH, FPCPharm, FGCPharm) is the Director-General of the Ghana Standards Authority (www.gsa.gov.gh) and an Associate Professor at the Centre for Tropical Clinical Pharmacology, School of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Ghana. He is the country representative to the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) and serves on the Council of the African Standards Organisation. He has worked extensively on the development of norms and standards especially in healthcare in collaboration with the World Health Organisation and the Council for International Organizations of Medical Sciences (CIOMS).
In addition to his work in standardisation, Prof Alex Dodoo is also a Scientific Advisor at the African Collaborating Centre for Pharmacovigilance (www.acc-afro.org) which acts as convening platform for safety surveillance in Africa. He serves or has served on several local and international advisory, training and safety committees, including Member, WHO Advisory Committee on the Safety of Medicinal Products, Member, Access & Product Management Advisory Committee of the Medicines for Malaria Venture and Chairman of the Strategic Planning Group of the Global Vaccine Safety Initiative. He is also a member of the WHO Expert Committee on Drug Dependency Disorders as well as a Member of the WHO Panel on Drug Evaluation. He was for two terms (4 years), the President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana and served as President of the Pharmacy Information Section of the International Pharmaceutical Federation. From 2009 – 2012, Alex Dodoo served as the President of the International Society of Pharmacovigilance (ISoP) from 2009-2012.
He is the author/co-author of various manuscripts and full papers in peer-reviewed journals and has one book published titled: Healthy Secrets – a layperson’s guide to health issues.
HON. KENNEDY OSEI NYARKO – MEMBER, GOVERNING BOARD
Hon. Kennedy Osei Nyarko is a member of the 10th Governing Board of the Ghana Standards Authority. He is the Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture in charge of Perennial Crops, and also in his second term in parliament for Akim Swedru constituency in the Eastern region.
He is a chartered marketer with serval other certificates in marketing. He is a marketing expert and has challenged himself in his new area (Agriculture) to be industrious and excel.
In parliament, he has served on a number of committees and currently chairs the Local Government committee.
Prior to becoming MP, he worked in several capacities and positions at Jospong Consortium, Zoomlion Ghana Ltd and rose to the level of a General Manager (Northern Sector) at J. A Plant Pool Ghana Ltd, where he finally left and joined the Train to directly serve and contribute to the development of the people of his area and Ghana as a whole.
MARK TAYLOR – MEMBER, GOVERNING BOARD
Mr. Mark Taylor is a member of the 10th Governing Board of the Ghana Standards Authority. He holds a Master of Science in Management from M.I.T’s SLOAN School of Management, an M.S.E in Chemical engineering and a Master of Science in Chemistry from the Hampton University, all in the United States of America.
He is a highly qualified and effective executive leader with extensive experience in engineering finance, administration, manufacturing and strategic planning. He has a proven ability to improve operations, impact business growth and maximize profit through achievement in finance management, cost reduction, internal control, and productivity/efficiency improvements. He has over 35 years general management experience and systems technology design and implementation.
Besides being a Board Member of the GSA, he is also a Board member with the following institutions; FOS Aluminium Company Limited, Ghana, Ningo Salts Limited, Taylor & Taylor Company Limited, Linclab Limited amongst others.
PETER MARTEY AGBEKO – HEAD, PUBLIC RELATIONS
Peter Martey Agbeko is a Communication Specialist with over two decades of experience in strategic communications. He joined GSA in November 2017 and was appointed Head of Public Relations in April 2018. His extensive work experience at various periods cuts across disciplines such as marketing and social research, journalism and public relations. With this diverse background, he presents a strong set of complementary professional experiences. He began his career with the Marketing Social and Research Institute ((MSRI), part of the Advantage Group, in 1989. He was the first Director of the Ghana International Press Centre, serving successfully in that position from 1992-1995. Since 2005, Peter has served as the Head of Corporate Affairs International; an Accra- based private Media Management Services Company. Over the last decade, he has been engaged as an external PR consultant by C&F Porter Novelli, Nigeria, a trusted business advisor and leader in strategic communications for West Africa.
Over the same period, he has worked as an external PR consultant for STB McCANN, Accra, a full-service agency, which is affiliated to the McCann World Group. Peter is well versed in new media and strategically leverages social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube and other platforms. In the 2016/2017 academic year, he was an adjunct lecturer at the Ghana Institute of Journalism, teaching news & feature writing in the Bachelor of Arts degree students Programme. He was a member of the 2017 Ghana Journalists Association Awards Committee. He was also a member of the five-member compilation team that developed and authored the 724 page St. Augustine’s College, School Reference book (Almanac).
Peter is an alumnus of the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) and Swansea University in the United Kingdom, where he obtained an MSc (Econ) in Social Development Planning & Management. He is an active and long-standing member of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), and also a member of the Institute of Public Relations, Ghana (IPR).
DR. POKU ADUSEI – DDG, GENERAL SERVICES
Dr. Poku Adusei was appointed Deputy Director General of the Ghana Standards Authority on September 1, 2017. Prior to his appointment, he was a Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana, School of Law, where he taught Intellectual Property Law, Private International Law, Company Law and Land Law. He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) Degree from the University of Ghana and a Qualified Certificate in Law from the Ghana School of Law, Accra. He was called to the Ghana Bar in 2003. Dr. Adusei was awarded the H.N. McDermid Scholarship for proven ability in the area of specialisation by the University of Alberta, Canada, where he earned his Master of Laws (LL.M.) Degree with specialisation in copyright law and innovation. He holds a PhD in patent law, innovation and development from McGill University in Canada.
Dr. Adusei has written extensively on the subject of intellectual property law, technology transfer, and innovation in reputable local and international peer-review journals, including, the Journal of African Law, African Journal of International and Comparative Law, Global Journal of Comparative Law, Journal of World Intellectual Property, African Journal of Information and Communication, University of Botswana Law Journal, KNUST Law Journal, Lancaster University Ghana Law Journal, and University of Ghana Law Journal.
Dr. Adusei has travelled far and wide having consulted for many governmental agencies and international organisations, including, the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), the World Trade Organisation (WTO), the Ghana-Swiss Intellectual Property Project under the auspices of the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Judicial Training Institute, Ghana Lands Commission, and the Ghana Integrity Initiative, a local chapter of Transparency International, West Africa Civil Society Institute.
Since being called to the Ghana Bar, Dr Adusei has attained remarkable excellence in corporate law practice and commercial litigation in the Superior Court of Judicature in Ghana. He has also been involved in a number of human rights/public interest litigation against mining companies and other agencies in Ghana.
In early 2017, Dr. Poku Adusei was made the Secretary to the Presidential Selection Committee for MMDCEs throughout the Country. He was also made Chairman of the NPP’s Presidential and Parliamentary Elections Review Committee that probed the conduct/performance of the Party in the 2016 general elections. He further served as the Chairman of the 2017 Investigative Committee on the Sale of State/Public Lands in Ghana.
AKWASI A. ACHAMPONG – BOARD CHAIRMAN, GOVERNING BOARD
Dr. Akwasi Achampong is the Board Chairman of the 10th Governing Board of the Ghana Standards Authority. He obtained his first degree at the Long Island University with a BSc in Pharmacy and worked at Merck Pharmaceuticals before pursuing a Medical degree at New York College of Osteo Medicine Of New York Institute Of Technology (NYCOM) in the USA. He graduated from the NYCOM in 1997. He has over 21 years of diverse experience, especially in Internal Medicine. He is affiliated with many hospitals including Long Island Jewish Medical Center, North Shore University Hospital. Dr. Akwasi A. Achampong also cooperates with other doctors and physicians in medical groups including Elmont Medical Pc.
Dr. Akwasi Achampong is a trained medical professional in the specialty of Internal Medicine. He is also the Medical Director and owner of Elmont Medical, PC, USA. He is a Private Pilot and Chief Executive Officer of Unique Life Inc. He is a professor of NYCOM, Clinical Associate Professor Molloy College, New York University and Hofstra Medical School. He is the founder of the Baldwin Foundation and Baldwin University College
IDDRISU ABDULAI – MEMBER, GOVERNING BOARD
Mr. Iddrisu Abdulai is a member of the 10th Governing Board of the Ghana Standards Authority. He holds a B.Sc. Administration (Accounting) from the University of Ghana. His working career started as an Internal Auditor of Accra Brewery Ltd for four (4) years. He worked as a management and financial consultant with Sky Consult Ghana Ltd for about a year before remarkably setting up the Zebra Aluminium Company Ltd in October 1998.
To sharpen his management skills, he has attended several management courses at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Empretec and Japan. Currently, he is pursuing Master of Research in Finance.
KOFI AMPONSAH-BEDIAKO – DIRECTOR , CORPORATE COMMUNICATIONS
Dr. Kofi Amponsah-Bediako is the Director of Corporate Communications. He joined Ghana Standards Authority in 1996 as Senior Administrative Manager. He holds a B.A. (Hons) Degree in Political Science, Graduate Diploma in Communication Studies and MA in Communication Studies. He also holds a Certificate in Standardisation and Quality Systems for Developing Countries (New Delhi, India), Post Graduate Certificate in Business Administration and a PhD in Business Administration. He is an expert in Communications Strategy, Strategic Management and Organisational Planning.
He has undertaken WTO eLearning courses and possesses certificates for 24 courses in International Trade Law and other Trade-related matters as part of the WTO Technical Assistance and Outreach programmes. He has been involved in a number of Outreach programmes on Metrology, Standardisation and Conformity Assessment. He has served on a number of committees, including Working Group “Awareness Raising” of the Technical cooperation with ECOWAS-PTB Project, a project aimed at building a Regional Quality Infrastructure in the ECOWAS Region. He also served as a member of the Technical Committee on Accessibility Standards – GSA/TC11, 2015-2016; and a co-opted member of the Technical Committee on Petroleum Products – GSA/TC13, 2016. For several years, he has served as a Guest Lecturer at the Ghana Armed Forces Senior Staff College (GAFSSC), Teshie.
He is an Accredited Member of the Institute of Public Relations. He has to his credit three publications emanating from his PhD thesis. In 2001, he published a book entitled “Foundations of Advertising” for students in tertiary institutions.
