Prof. George Agyei is a distinguished mining engineer and academic leader currently serving as Acting Director-General of the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), where he drives regulatory excellence and institutional innovation across Ghana’s standards and metrology landscape. On secondment from the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), where he holds the rank of Full Professor, Prof. Agyei brings over two decades of expertise in mining engineering, quality assurance, and strategic institutional development.
As the Dean of Faculty of Mining and Minerals Technology Engineering at UMaT until his appointment as GSA Acting Director Generals, and Vice Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies, Prof. Agyei has demonstrated exceptional capacity in academic administration, curriculum development, and fostering industry-academia partnerships. His leadership extends to his role as Chief Executive Officer of the African Institution of Mining Professionals and Practitioners (AfIMPP), where he champions mining excellence and sustainable practices across the continent.
Prof. Agyei holds a Doctor of Technical Science (DScTech) and an MBA in General Management, complementing his Bachelor of Engineering in Mining. His scholarly impact is evidenced by 43 peer-reviewed publications and his service on multiple editorial boards, including the Ghana Mining Journal and Nigerian Journal of Technology. A Fellow of the West African Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum, he maintains affiliations with leading international engineering bodies.
Throughout his career, Prof. Agyei has distinguished himself through strategic vision, stakeholder engagement, and a commitment to building institutional capacity that bridges regulatory frameworks, academic excellence, and industry innovation.
