Greater Accra Regional Office Educates Vendors at Electrofest Fair

The Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) participated in the two-day Electrofest Fair held from May 1 -2, 2026, at the forecourt of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) office.

The fair gathered vendors dealing in electrical appliances, clothing, food products, and other household items, creating a platform for businesses to showcase their products and engage directly with consumers.

The exercise was spearheaded by the Greater Accra Regional Office, together with the Marketing Department, as part of efforts to educate traders and the public on standards, product quality, and consumer safety.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Clement Kwolaga Kubati, Greater Accra Regional Manager of the GSA, emphasized that the Authority’s mandate goes beyond enforcement to include public awareness.

He explained that GSA is committed to creating awareness among businesses and consumers on the importance of standards and quality assurance in trade. According to him, vendors and entrepreneurs who seek to grow and expand their businesses stand to benefit greatly from collaborating with the Authority.

“If you are a vendor here and you want to expand your business, it is good to partner with Ghana Standards Authority. We are here to protect consumers; we are here to promote trade,” he stated.

Mrs. Dorothy Amoah, Head of the Marketing Department, educated the entrepreneurs, particularly food vendors, to engage the services of GSA by purchasing relevant standards and submitting their products for testing.

She further explained the importance of the GSA Certification Mark, noting that products which successfully undergo testing and meet the required standards are granted the GSA Certification Mark to be embossed on their products.

She added that the Mark serves as an assurance of quality and conformity to standards, thereby increasing consumer confidence and enabling businesses to market their products both locally and internationally.

As part of the exercise, the GSA Enforcement Team visited various exhibition stands to inspect products and educate vendors on proper labelling requirements and compliance with standards.

The team also assessed whether products on display had been certified by the GSA and collected samples of suspected sub-standard products for further laboratory testing and analysis.
