A five-member delegation from the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA), on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, paid a courtesy call on the leadership of the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) at the Authority’s head office in Accra.
The meeting was aimed at strengthening the existing partnership between the two institutions and exploring new areas of collaboration to support the growth and competitiveness of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Ghana. Discussions focused on MSME sensitisation on standards; certification support for GEA-assisted enterprises; joint capacity-building initiatives; product quality improvement; and enhanced data sharing between the two organisations.
The engagement follows an earlier request by the GSA to the GEA for the provision of office spaces within the Agency’s 67 district offices across the country to support the Authority’s decentralisation efforts and improve access to its services nationwide.
Mrs. Philomina Dsane, Director of Policy Planning, Research, Monitoring and Evaluation at GEA, who led the delegation, reaffirmed her outfit’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the GSA to support the development of SMEs.
She noted that the Agency remains committed to providing the necessary support to facilitate the Authority’s operations at the district level.
Mr. Samuel Abdulai Jabanyite, the GSA’s Deputy Director-General in charge of General Services, in his remarks, expressed the Authority’s appreciation for the partnership and indicated GSA’s interest in utilising all the office spaces of the GEA in the 67 districts.
“As soon as the tenancy agreement is finalised, we will engage further on the requirements for the office spaces. This collaboration presents an opportunity to bring GSA services closer to businesses across the country,” he said.
Mr. Jabanyite further disclosed that the Authority would develop a framework to guide collaboration in areas such as data sharing, training and capacity building. He tasked the Head of Legal, Mrs. Pokuaa Appiah Kusi, to initiate the development of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalise the partnership and provide a structured framework for cooperation.
Dr. Awal Mohammed, the GSA Deputy Director-General for Operations, highlighted the existing collaboration between the two institutions, noting that GSA is already utilising some GEA office facilities in the Savannah and Oti Regions.
Dr. Awal also informed the delegation that the Authority would host this year’s World Standards Day celebrations in Takoradi and called for support from the GEA in mobilising MSMEs within the Western Region to participate in the event.
Mrs. Nana Pokua Asare-Twerefour, Head of the Food, Chemical and Material Standards Department at the GSA, in her remarks, provided an overview of the role of standards in business development and explained the Authority’s efforts to simplify standards through illustration and user-friendly materials tailored to the needs of SMEs. She noted that Ghana’s standards are developed in line with international best practices and serve as essential tools for improving product quality and market access.
