The Director-General of the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), Professor George Agyei, together with some senior officials of the Authority, on Thursday, May 7, 2026, met with the leadership of the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education Training (CTVET) at the Head Office in Accra.
The meeting was convened following a request by the Authority to the Commission to support the establishment of a National Metrology Training Curriculum.
The delegation, led by Mr. Kwame Zu, the Deputy Director-General in charge of Technical Services, noted that the request by the Authority aligns strongly with the mandate of the Commission.
He added that the Commission welcomes such collaborations with institutions like GSA to help provide competency-based training for learners within Ghana’s industrial sector.
Prof. Agyei, in his remarks, stated that the idea of establishing metrology training in Ghana has been under consideration for the past 10 to 15 years. He further said that he considers the Commission a dynamic institution dedicated to the training of middle and higher-level education, adding that his admiration for the institution stems from his understanding of their systems and operations.

“This idea of getting our metrology training in Ghana has been on the drawing board for the past 10 years. I know CTVET is a very dynamic institution focused on training mid-level and higher-level training,” he stated.
The Director-General stated that Ghana currently lacks an institution dedicated to training in metrology, stressing that the field plays a critical role in trade and industry. According to him, metrology, which is the science of measurement, is essential in ensuring credibility and acceptance in international trade.
“If you don’t get metrology right, nobody will respect you in trade; we are the science of trust,” he noted.
Mr. Evans Asiedu, Director of Metrology at the GSA, said Section 59 of the Ghana Standards Authority Act, 2022 (ACT 1078) describes the Authority as the National Metrology Institute, in accordance with the requirements of the International Bureau of Weights and Measures.
A technical committee was subsequently constituted to steer the initiative, with Dr. Awal Mohammed, Deputy Director-General in charge of Operations at the GSA, serving as chair alongside Mr. Evans Asiedu, Director of Metrology.
Representing the Commission on the committee are Mr. Kwame Zu; Dr. Peter Boahin, the CTVET Director in charge of Standards Curriculum Development and Enforcement; Mr. Emmanuel Taywan, Deputy Director in charge of Curriculum at the CVET; Mr. Theophilus Zogblah, Deputy Director; and Mrs. Edith Adotey, Principal Manager, all from CTVET
