The Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, held a stakeholder workshop on the implementation of National Standards for Recycling and Recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate (rPET).The engagement, convened at the World Bank Office in Accra, brought together key stakeholders including representatives of GSA, World Bank, Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry (MoTAI), Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology (MEST), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and other industry players.
The workshop was aimed at disseminating the standard and exploring practical approaches to its implementation, particularly in the collection, segregation, sorting, and recycling of Polyethylene Terephthalate. The initiative is expected to empower value chain actors to play a more active role in advancing the national plastic management policy, while also contributing meaningfully to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The event featured presentations from Mr. Macmillan Prentice, Head of the Vehicle Homologation Unit at the GSA as well as Mr. Edward Brown and Mrs. Priscilla Asantewaa Boateng from the Standards Directorate. Discussions centered on Recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate (rPET) packaging waste projects, and regulatory framework coordination for effective implementation.
Also in attendance at the workshop were Dr. Mohammed Awal (DDG-OPS), Mr. Kofi Yeboah Debrah, Ag. Head of the Public Relations Department, Mr. Vincent Arthur from the Standards Directorate and Afia Adomako Kusi from the Vehicle Homologation Unit.
