On Friday, May 22, 2026, a delegation from Kumasi Technical University (KTU), presented a proposal to the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) for collaboration to establish a textile testing laboratory in the university to serve both the Middle and Northern Belts of Ghana.
The team sought GSA’s support in providing laboratory equipment and conducting training on textiles standards to enhance capacity and quality assurance in the region.
The proposal was received on behalf of the Director-General (DG) by the Deputy Director-General in charge of General Services (DDG-GEN), Hon. Samuel Jabanyite.
In response, Hon. Jabanyite described the visit as timely. He disclosed that plans were already far advanced with partners in Kumasi, Tamale, and Takoradi to establish regional laboratories aimed at expanding GSA’s services across the country.
He assured the delegation that the proposal would be presented to the DG, with the hope of forging a collaboration that would strengthen the textile industry in Ghana. The visiting team expressed appreciation for the warm reception and the Authority’s commitment to regional expansion.
The delegation, which included fashion design and textile studies students and was led by Head of the Textiles Department, Dr Solomon Ayensu and Head of Graphic Design, Dr. Timothy Crenstil, also embarked on an educational tour of GSA’s facilities.
During the tour, Ms. Aseye Sepenu of the PR Department led an informative presentation on GSA’s mandate and its range of services. She explained that GSA’s work is anchored on standardisation, inspection, testing, certification, and metrology- core functions that ensure quality, safety, and consumer protection in Ghana.
A Senior Staff from the Certification Department, Madam Rachel Amanfu, also addressed the team and provided detailed insights into certification processes within the textiles and fabrics industry, highlighting the procedures, requirements, and benefits of obtaining GSA certification.
The students also participated in a tour of the Textiles Laboratory and the Textiles Conditioning Laboratory following the presentations.
