ARSO Secretary-General Calls on Director-General

The Secretary-General (SG) of the African Organization for Standardization (ARSO), Dr. Hermogène Nsengimana, on Thursday, November 13, 2025, called on the Director-General (DG) of GSA, Prof. George Agyei, to congratulate him on his new role as the DG and discuss issues of mutual interest.
Dr. Nsengimana, who was accompanied by Nadine Umutoni, Project Coordinator at ARSO, expressed his outfit’s complement to Prof. Agyei, noting that his appointment would mark a renewed commitment to Ghana’s influence on ARSO.
“We are here to congratulate you officially on your appointment and we are confident that this appointment will strengthen our longstanding relationship. Ghana is a champion of standardization in Africa, and we hope you will continue to help the other countries catch up with you in order to help the continent grow in standardization,” Dr. Nsengimana noted.
Prof. Agyei, on his part, said that the relationship between the two standards bodies was very essential in eliminating barriers of trade between countries in Africa.
“We are very happy to have you here and GSA is very committed to contributing to the harmonization of African standards to enable us trade amongst each other. Standardization is a qualification to access various markets, and we must help each other standardize our markets to enable us trade amongst ourselves,” Prof. Agyei stated.
He recommended that ARSO adopted digitization as a major tool for its work to benefit SMEs that form a huge part of Africa’s economy to enable the continent grow.
During the meeting, both heads agreed to continue the agenda of harmonizing African standards and collaboration to improve trade among countries on the continent.
