The Management Committee of the Food Safety Emergency Response Plan (FoSERP), on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, called on the Acting Director-General (Ag. DG), Professor George Agyei, and some members of senior management of the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) to provide updates on the operations of the FoSERP management committee, work done so far and testing support required from GSA.

The Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), Mr. Roderick Daddey-Adjei, who led the FoSERP team, spoke extensively on the GSA’s important role in food safety management and further called for a stronger cooperation and renewed support to move the committee’s work forward.
He explained that a sustained and coordinated support from GSA is critical to the FoSERP team in improving emergency response during food safety emergencies in the country.

Prof. Agyei, on his part, expressed the Authority’s excitement at meeting the FoSERP team, noting that his outfit was ever ready to support the committee to achieve its mandate. He called on the FoSERP team to improve upon their communication with all participating agencies for more effective outcomes.
During the meeting, it was agreed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) would be signed by the two institutions as will be done with all other participating agencies to formalise and set apart the specific roles all institutions must play in the event of food safety emergencies as per the plan.
The FoSERP Management Committee is a cross-functional team that developed, implements, and oversees plans to quickly detect, assess, and manage food-borne threats. The FDA is the main coordinator ensuring that all participating government agencies, industry, and experts are called upon to protect public health. The committee has established clear roles, communication strategies, and action protocols for dealing with contamination and foodborne outbreaks through a multi-agency coordination in line with the national food safety policy.
FoSERP Management Committee consist of nine (9) members from institution that plays key roles along the food chain. These are; Food and Drugs Authority – FDA (Lead), Plant Protection & Regulatory Services Directorate – PPRSD, Veterinary Services Directorate – VSD, Ministry of Health – MoH; Ghana Standards Authority – GSA, GRA- Customs Division; Ghana Armed Forces, the MMDAs and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), coordinating for holistic response, focusing on prevention, protection, mitigation of food-borne threats and restoration of safety.
