GSA Staff Mark National May Day Celebration in Koforidua

Staff of the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), joined other workers’ union to mark the national Labour Day parade on Friday, May 1, 2026, at the Jackson Pak in Park in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital.

This year’s celebration, held under the theme: “Pivoting to Growth, Jobs, and Sustainable Livelihoods Beyond Macro-Economic Stability”, brought together 31 organized labour unions, security services, and informal sector associations to celebrate the resilience and dedication of the Ghanaian workforce.

The event was graced by His Excellency, President John Dramani Mahama, the Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Hon. Rashid Pelpuo, and other government dignitaries.

President Mahama delivered the keynote address where he paid tribute to the Ghanaian workers for their hard work, resilience and dedication, describing them as the backbone of the nation’s economical recovery.

He expressed a commitment to creating decent jobs and fostering a “24-hour economy” to balance the industries, announcing the intensification of factory inspections to ensure occupational safety and prevent loss of life at workplaces.

He urged union leaders, including the Trades Union Congress (TUC), to be proactive and not stand by while management or governing boards mismanage enterprises, as workers suffer the most when businesses collapse.

Additionally, President Mahama encouraged workers to continue hoping for a better future, aiming to protect retirees’ investments, revitalize businesses, and ensure social protection funds are maintained.

The parade featured members from 31 unions under the TUC, along with other labour groups, including the Public Service Workers’ Union, Public Utilities Workers Union, CLOGSAG, GPRTU, TEWU, GNAT, NAGRAT, UNICOF, and among several others.

The GSA made a strong and vibrant presence at the event, with staff proudly dressed in branded T-shirts and carrying placards that highlighted the importance of consumers checking for the GSA Certification Mark on products they purchase and consume. The display served as an awareness campaign aimed at educating the public on the need to patronize certified products that meet approved quality and safety standards.

Awards and certificates were presented to deserving workers and institutions in recognition of their contributions to national development
