A three-member delegation from the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA), on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, embarked on a study visit to the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) to gain knowledge in Ghana’s systems, policies and regulatory frameworks for the management of over-age and used vehicles.

The team, led by Mr. Abubakar Sheriff, Secretary to the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority Board, stated that the purpose of the visit was to learn from Ghana’s existing standards and regulations governing the importation and patronage of used vehicles.
“This mission is necessitated by the African Road Safety Charter to ensure that our roads are safe. We are not only here to copy but we will go back to adopt most of the positive thoughts you have shared,” he stated.
Dr. Mohammed Awal, the Deputy Director-General in charge of Operations at the GSA, expressed appreciation to the delegation for choosing Ghana as a partner for the collaboration and knowledge-sharing engagement.
“We are grateful that you chose Ghana for this collaboration. At the Ghana Standards Authority, we have an Industrial Support Department that provides training and capacity-building programmes for our clients and stakeholders,” he stated.
Mr. Macmillan Prentice, the Head of the GSA’s Vehicle Homologation Unit, made a presentation on the current vehicle standards, enforcement mechanisms and the challenges in ensuring compliance at the ports and among importers.
Discussions focused on regulations governing used vehicles and the safety standards required to ensure compliance. The team from the GSA provided comprehensive responses to the various questions and concerns raised by the delegation.
Ms. Joyce Okoree, Director of Certification; Ms. Pokuaa Kusi Appiah, Esq., Head of the Legal Unit at the GSA, and representatives from Ghana’s National Road Safety Authority, were present at the meeting.
