A delegation from the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute (KEITI) on Thursday, July 9, 2026, called on the Director-General (DG) of the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), Prof. George Agyei, at the Authority’s head office in Accra.
The meeting was held to discuss the implementation of the International Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Reduction Project (IGRP) in Ghana.
The meeting provided an opportunity for KEITI to introduce the project, which seeks to improve access to safe drinking water through the installation of water purification systems in rural communities.
The project is expected to be implemented in 269 communities within the Ashanti Region and aims to provide residents with reliable access to clean and safe water. The initiative also promotes environmentally sustainable water treatment solutions that help reduce dependence on traditional methods of water purification.
The KEITI delegation was accompanied by representatives of its partner organizations in Korea, including EWC Company Limited, IBK Securities Company Limited, and Glory and Tech Company Limited.
Prof. George Agyei commended KEITI and its partners for undertaking an initiative that aligns with efforts to improve public health and environmental sustainability. He stated that access to quality drinking water remains a challenge in some parts of the country, particularly in the five northern regions, where prolonged dry seasons often exacerbate water shortages.
DG encouraged the project team to consider extending part of the initiative to communities in northern Ghana to help address the growing demand for safe and potable water in the area.
He also assured the delegation of GSA’s technical support, particularly in the area of conformity assessment, to ensure the successful implementation of the project and adherence to relevant quality standards.
Also present at the meeting was Mr. Samuel Abdulai Jabanyite, the Deputy Director-General (General Services). He highlighted the broader environmental benefits of the initiative. He noted that the use of innovative water purification technologies could reduce reliance on traditional water treatment methods, thereby contributing to greenhouse gas reduction efforts.
