A delegation from the American Chamber of Commerce-Ghana (AmCham), on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, engaged the Director-General (DG) of the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), Prof. George Agyei, on issues relating to standards, quality assurance and industry collaboration.
The discussions during the meeting mainly focused on industry experience with standards compliance and certification processes, alignment of local standards with international and regional benchmarks, data availability for standards-driven market intelligence, and opportunities structured engagement between the GSA and industry players.

Prof. Agyei noted that Ghana and the United States share a strong and long-standing bilateral relationship. He emphasized that the Authority maintains standards partnership with the U.S, marked by extensive technical collaborations and through these engagements, the United States continues to provide support in standards development, harmonization and adoption.
He further disclosed that the GSA is working to position the consumer as an important digital checkpoint in the standards enforcement process, explaining that the Authority is exploring the introduction of QR code-based technology that will enable consumers to scan products to verify their registration status and confirm whether they meet approved standards.
He revealed that the GSA has established an Accra Regional Office dedicated exclusively to market enforcement activities within the capital, adding that the new office will strengthen surveillance and compliance efforts within the region, ensuring that products meet the required standards to safeguard consumer safety.
The AmCham delegation, which was led by its Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Doris Kafui Afanyedey, expressed appreciation for the engaging and fruitful discussion during the meeting.
She commended the GSA for its openness and commitment, noting that the interaction provided valuable insights and strengthened the foundation for continued collaboration between both institutions.
